    Our Focus

The primary focus of the Rideau Valley Field Naturalists club is on acquiring, recording and disseminating knowledge of natural history and the active protection and conservation of the natural environment.

    • Membership interests include flora, fauna, astronomy, conservation, photography, geology, ecology, hiking and nature field trips.

    • The RVFN is a member of Ontario Nature (formerly The Federation of Ontario Naturalists), Nature Canada and is a supporter of the Eastern Ontario Model Forest program.

    • The annual Christmas Bird Count coincides with the Audubon Bird Count, and our sighting records are included in the annual Audubon records. Bird Count data are used to study the migratory habits of North American birds, endangered species and revitalization of species.

    • The Rideau Valley Field Naturalists Club was formed in 1984. Membership is drawn from a large area including Perth, Smiths Falls, Maberly, Lanark, McDonald's Corners, Westport, Elgin, Delta, Oxford Mills, etc.
