Wildflowers topic of next field naturalist meeting
By Judy Buehler
Rideau Valley Field Naturalists
Next to the return of migrating birds, the natural wonder that takes we naturalists to our ‘happy place’ is the arrival of wildflowers. Depending on your concept of what constitutes a wildflower, these gifts from nature can range from trilliums and dandelions to goldenrod and milkweed. To start the blooming season off on the right path, Isabelle Nicol, well-known Ottawa- area natural history educator, will be speaking at the Sunday, May 4th meeting of the Rideau Valley Field Naturalist club.
Isabelle is a free-lance teacher who has taught natural history in Ottawa-area schools for over 15 years, is a long-time volunteer with the Ottawa Field Naturalist Club and the Fletcher Wildlife Garden, has led many field trips and is the recipient of the Mary Stuart Education Award for 2006. From her vast knowledge of the natural world, Isabelle will be focussing on wildflowers at the Sunday meeting.
The general public is invited to join the RVFN for their meeting at 2 p.m., Sun., May 4, in the All-Purpose Room at the Perth and District Indoor Swimming Pool on Wilson Street at Sunset Boulevard. There is a small admission fee of $5.00 for non-members.
